First, if you are reading this you might want TO know about my background. I was born and raised in West Roxbury, MA, part of the city of Boston. I am married with two grown children. In 1989 my wife, children, and I crossed the Mason-Dixon line and relocated to Fairfax County VA. Occasionally you might hear a "y'all" leak from our mouths but it would be quickly tempered with a Pahk the Caar...
I am a fiscal conservative. What does that mean? To me it means I want fiscal sanity in my Federal Government. It doesn't mean we can never run a deficit and it doesn't mean we should never raise taxes, it does mean we need to be serious about our country's financial situation and be serious about reasonable ways to deal with the same. We have a golden goose in this country that no one else has - innovation and entrepreurial gusto. People WANT to discover the next Facebook. They want to be rich. It may be sloppy and at times untoward, but we must keep as a high priority our encouragement of innovation. Tax policy can hurt that is we are not careful. We must not kill the goose for todays dinner.
I am a social liberal. What does that mean? Well it means I believe in civil rights for all. Women, men, LGBTQ folks, old people and young people - black, white, and every shade there is. I believe in full amnesty for people in this county legally that have no criminal records. I believe abortion rights are established law and should not be infringed upon. And contraception? C'mon, are we really having that discussion?
So, why am I blogging? Well for one reason, my wife is sick of me complaining to her about the untruths and shaded truths I find in the mainstream media (including Fox and CNN) so maybe in a small way I can be a clearinghouse for the truth. Not asking for much, eh?
So lets kick this off and see how long I can do it. All comments gratefully appreciated. Thoughtful ones even more so!
